Unlike most cash back cards with hidden limitations, the CIBC Dividend Visa Infinite delivers real value. We love the 4% cash back on eligible gas, EV charging, and grocery purchases†, plus 2% cash back on eligible transportation, dining purchases and recurring payments†.
Even better, the spending caps are reasonable for most Canadians. Just pair it with the right travel card (as this one is a little weak on travel insurance) for the perfect combo.
Perhaps unexpectedly, the CIBC Dividend Visa Infinite Card is perfect for the food-motivated individual. It’s one of the rare cards that offers an elevated cash back bonus on both grocery stores and dining. So, if (like me) you want a credit card for both your home chef creations and your fancy date nights — this card is made for you.
Others who will find value with the Dividend Visa Infinite Card include:
The CIBC Dividend® Visa Infinite* Card comes with a pretty straightforward sign-up bonus for new accounts:
We estimate this welcome bonus to be valued at $320.
Earning cash back on this card is simple:
Like I said, all you have to do is eat and drive (foodie road trip, anyone?). Keep this card at the front of your wallet for your weekly grocery store trips and gas station visits to get that generous 4% cash back bonus.
The elevated cash back rates apply up to $20,000 in purchases in these bonus categories, annually — after that it’s back to a 1% cash back. Not bad, all things considered.
This card allows you to redeem your cash back rewards any time of the year - a great feature.
You can do that by accessing CIBC online banking or the mobile app, and clicking on the card to redeem your accumulated rewards. After that, your cash back rewards will show up as a credit on your statement.
The catch? You need to have accumulated at least $25 in cash back rewards to redeem.
For the truly lazy (clicking a few buttons is a lot of work!), you can also wait until your January statement each year — after which, the cash back rewards will be automatically redeemed as a statement credit.
What makes this card particularly attractive is its flexible redemption system. Unlike many competitors that restrict redemptions to once annually, CIBC allows cardholders to access their cash back whenever they want throughout the year, provided they've accumulated at least $25. This gives you greater control over your rewards.
We rate the CIBC Dividend Visa infinite credit card because of the impressive value for money it provides. We estimate that the card provides up to $878 in first-year value (including the welcome bonus that we value at $320).
| Insurance | Coverage amount |
|---|---|
| Extended warranty | For items bought on this card with warranty, an extra 1 year following the expiry of the original warranty will be added |
| Purchase protection | Provides coverages for certain items bought with the card, if these items are lost, stolen and damaged (up to 90 days from date of purchase). |
| Mobile device | Provides coverage for mobile devices that are lost, stolen or accidentally damaged up to $1,000 per occurrence, per insured person. Either the full device cost was paid with this card, or any portion of the price is financed with the card through a Canadian wireless service provider |
| Travel accident insurance | Coverage for accidental death or dismemberment, resulting from riding as a passenger on a common carrier are covered up to $500,000 |
| Emergency medical insurance | Up to $5 million of coverage for 10 consecutive days, for cardholders under 65. No coverage for cardholders over 65 |
| Car rental insurance | Rental cars charged to this card will be covered for a rental period of 48 days (for rental cars up to $65,000 in value) |
The online community raved about this card’s compatibility with Journie rewards — a program that allows you to save three cents per litre at participating Pioneer, Fas Gas, Ultramar and Chevron gas stations (plus an additional seven cents/litre each time you earn 300 Journie points).
While not a “make or break” benefit, it’s a nice addition that cements the CIBC Dividend Visa Infinite as a great daily spending card.
CIBC Dividend Visa Infinite is also great particularly if you drive a lot as it works with Journie Rewards to save on gas.

The CIBC Dividend Visa Infinite gives you 4% back on groceries and gas, while BMO's World Elite offers 5% on groceries and 3% cash back on gas and EV charging% on gas. BMO has a better welcome bonus worth around $650 in the first year compared to CIBC's $320.
The biggest practical difference? CIBC lets you redeem your cash back whenever you want, but BMO makes you wait for an annual January payout. CIBC is also easier to qualify for with a $60K income requirement versus BMO's $80K.
If you spend more on groceries than gas and don't mind waiting for your rewards, go with BMO. If you value flexibility and spend heavily on gas, CIBC is your better bet.

The Platinum version offers a more accessible entry point with its lower minimum income requirement and annual fees.
The main compromise is the lack of emergency travel medical insurance and slightly lower earn rates across categories. It's ideal for students or young professionals building their credit profile while still earning meaningful rewards.
